Mivuyo, who is not even 1 year’s old, was born with bilateral clubfoot and is currently undergoing bracing in order to correct his foot alignment. Correcting clubfoot as soon as it has been identified is vital. It ensures that no further complications arise, and shortens the healing period drastically.
This is his clubfoot success story, as told by his mother, Bomikazi:
When did you find out about that your baby had clubfoot?
I found out after Mivuyo was born
How did you feel?
I felt a number of different emotions, but at the time I felt angry at the situation, I was cross and shocked at this had to have happened.
What was the treatment process like for you and your family?
Mivuyo’s father didn’t understand what clubfoot was, we had never heard of it before. We then went to the clinics and received advice, guidance and the appropriate information, which left us in a more understanding position.
How did you find out about STEPS?
The sisters at the clinic introduced me to Steps.
How did STEPS assist you on your journey?
Each and every week they made me feel happy and better with the situation, by giving me advice when I was feeling down or at times when I never understood certain procedures or treatments.
What advice would you offer to other families going through similar journeys?
They must attend the clinic dates and take into consideration the advice they receive. They also must not regret giving birth to a child with clubfoot.
