Nokuthula Radebe and her son, Kuhlesibonge, share their clubfoot success story

On the 16th September 2018, I gave birth to my beautiful son Kuhlesibonge Radebe. I named him Kuhle because I saw a beautiful flower that will take care of me when he grew up. When I gave birth, the nurse noticed that my child had a little problem – she advised that I go get the necessary checks. This is when I found out my son had clubfoot. They wrote me a referral letter to Grey’s Hospital, where I could get help.

Omphulusa and Sharon’s Clubfoot Journey

It has indeed been a long journey but the support and love that Omphu and I got from the families and the doctors and Steps at the Orthopaedic clinic gave me the strength to continue and not give up. My daughter can dance, jump and walk like any other child her age. And that gives me peace of mind. To all the mothers with children born with clubfoot please do not give up, do it for your bundle of joy.

Malik’s Success Story!

Malik received 10 casting sessions, which is when they use plaster to create molds around the foot in order to treat his unilateral clubfoot. These casts help the joints, bones, and ligaments grow in the correct direction by gently manipulating the foot.

Rethabile’s Clubfoot Success Story

Rethabile was born in Bara, 10 yrs ago, and started treatment when she was only 2 days old. Like Rethabile, her grandmother also suffered from clubfoot, which meant that the family was aware of the procedures and treatment plans.

Shane’s Clubfoot Success Story

At STEPS, we work hard on creating an environment in which the family can feel safe in, and that they know they will be getting the best treatment for their children. We encourage a happy space for the children so that treatments don’t become something they are fearful of.
