At just 21 days old, Lubanzi Sibaya began his clubfoot treatment journey at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital Clubfoot Clinic. Born with bilateral clubfoot, his mom was initially disheartened when she saw her baby’s feet and worried about what the future might hold. But the doctors and nurses quickly reassured her—clubfoot is treatable, and her baby’s feet could be fixed.
While the early days were filled with uncertainty and fear, things began to shift as Lubanzi started his treatment at the clinic. Seeing other babies with the same condition brought his mom comfort and hope for her son. She realised she wasn’t alone on this journey and that many families were going through the same process.
With the guidance and support of the clinic team and Steps coordinator Ursula Kibido, Lubanzi’s mom committed to playing her role – following the treatment plan, attending appointments, and supporting her little boy every step of the way.
“The support at the clinic made the journey feel like a piece of cake,” she shares.
The journey had its emotional ups and downs, as it often does for parents. But seeing Lubanzi’s progress was worth every moment. Today, at 6 years old, Lubanzi has fully corrected feet and is living a happy, active life—proof of what’s possible with early intervention and commitment to treatment.
Lubanzi’s mom offers this heartfelt advice to other parents starting their clubfoot journey:
“Do not give up, and don’t blame yourself for your baby’s condition. Follow the treatment and support your baby through it all. The results will amaze you.”
Lubanzi’s story is a beautiful reminder that with hope, dedication, and the right care, clubfoot is no barrier to a child’s future. A huge thank you to the team at Baragwanath Clubfoot Clinic for helping Lubanzi step into a life full of possibilities!
