photo 4 Cheryl Howard, our amazing STEPSsister who will shortly be climbing Mount Elbrus – the highest mountain in Russia – to raise funds and awareness for STEPS, has had her first glimpse of the mammoth mountain.

Cheryl arrived a few days ago and has been getting used to the freezing temperatures and the stark but striking setting.

“It’s really beautiful here,” she told us this morning. “We climbed Mount Cheget as an acclimatisation climb. It’s 3800m.”

Just a quick little acclimatisation stroll, you know!

We’ll be thinking of Cheryl over the next few days as she starts her climb in earnest. She has already raised R3400 for STEPS through our website, so we couldn’t be more proud of her and the journey she is on.

“It’s cold but not as cold as I expected. One can’t capture the size and beauty of these mountains,” she said.

We’re sure she will have a lot more stories to tell by the time she reaches the summit! Keep an eye on our blog for updates and photos of Cheryl’s journey for STEPS.
